Vice President Boediono opened the Annual General Meeting the World Halal Food Council


 Vice President Boediono opened the Annual General Meeting the World Halal Food Council (AGM-WHFC) and the Indonesian International Workshop On Strengthening the Global Halal Role For 2012, the Office of the Vice President, on Monday (16 / 1).

Boediono hope, a gathering of scholars that will enrich the understanding and experience of how best to implement the system of halal products are effective.

"In this forum can also be a vehicle for deeper dialogue between policy makers, practitioners, academics, and stakeholders to implement and produce a variety of halal products to the wider interests in accordance with Islamic Shari'a," Boediono said.

According to him, for Muslims, food, beverages, medicines, cosmetics and other products is not simply a means needs outwardly, but also has an important spiritual aspect.

Indonesia is a country that has a Muslim population of 200 million people, which is equivalent to six the number of Muslims in Islamic countries, namely Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, and Turkey. You can imagine how great a good number of food products, beverages, medicines, cosmetics and other products circulating in the community and always consumed daily.

"Therefore, efforts need to continue the policy formulation, implementation, supervision, and socialization of halal products in all walks of society to realize a halal standards generally accepted in the whole world. Thus, it can create peace and security for Muslims to consume halal products based on Islamic law, "he said.

Boediono said, in Indonesia, these efforts have been made by the Indonesian Ulema Council with the Research Institute for Food Drugs and Cosmetics (LPPOM) MUI hall with the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (POM). "Cooperation in this field need to be increased again, by opening up opportunities for cooperation with other countries. The World Halal Food Council can facilitate this cooperation," he hoped.

Boediono give appreciation to the Indonesian Ulema Council for its initiative in organizing this event. He hoped in this forum can be studied in depth and universal ways better to set standards for producing halal products, as well as examine how standards are applied without burden consumers. "This is important because the majority of consumers are Muslims with the income that may have been mediocre," he concluded.

Kadin to hold Jakarta Food Security Summit

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta -The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) will hold the Jakarta Food Security Summit from Feb.7-10 in Jakarta. The event is slated to be opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and will be closed by Vice President Boediono.

“We are aware that food security has become a critical problem,” Kadin chairman Suryo Bambang Sulisto said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com, adding that by holding the summit in Indonesia, it showed that Indonesia considered the issue to be important.

Suryo added that the prospects for the food industry were excellent, so the government was expected to give more attention to the development of this industry. It could contribute to the economy and to employment.
